Sailing the coast of Turkey and the Greek Islands; A Blue Romance...

Blue Voyage — Blue Cruise ("Mavi Yolculuk" in Turkish) is a term used forl gulet tours along Turkey's south west coasts and Greek Islands. The story of Blue Cruise starts in the Gulf of Gökova.

In 1925, when the historian and novel writer Cevat Sakir Kabaagacli was sent to exile to Bodrum because of an article he wrote, he was sentenced to three years of exile; however, the days he spent in Bodrum were a blessing rather than a punishment so he was ordered to come back to Istanbul in order to complete the rest of his punishment. After the exile was over Cevat Sakir immediately moved to Bodrum. Inspired by the name of Bodrum in ancient times he adopted the alias "Fisherman of Halicarnassus" and succeeded in writing numerous well known literature work.
He also chartered the gulet 'Yatagan' of a sponge hunter and made some adventure trips      along the Aegean coast. In his writings, Cevat Sakir tells us about his journeys and people he met. He later named these very humble trips "Blue Cruise".

It is time to set yourself free from the maddening crowd of the city and the walls surrounding you at your workplace or your home and to reach out for the sea. What would you say if we suggest that you had an adventurous voyage along the most beautiful Aegean and Mediterranean bays where thousands of shades of blue and green are mingled in a unique natural atmosphere. Is it possible to say 'No'?
You are right! We are talking abut Blue Cruise. It has been a great attraction for many people for years, but do you really know what it is? Blue Cruise is to experience the most beautiful sunset, to eat the most delicious fish and savour the unforgettable taste of various drinks and appetisers. And last but not least, it is to be side by side with your loved ones, cruising along the deserted bays and swimming in the cool tranquil waters. "Blue Cruise" will take you away to the unexplored bays on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts and on to the Greek Islands where you can swim, fish, do water sports, and also see the archaeological remains which you can only reach by boat. It is an unforgettable  experience and a great opportunity to meet the culture and the undisturbed character of this fascinating part of the world.

Essentials...

Here are some tips on what to pack, food on board a gulet and some of the activities which you may be able to enjoy during your blue cruise.

Time To Pack

On the boat, most of the time is spent in swimsuits. It should be sufficient if you also bring a pair of trainers for the short walks you will make on the land, several t-shirts, a pair of cotton trousers or shorts. A light summer dress for ladies also might be appropriate for dining in and out. Depending on the season, it might also be good to bring a pullover for after the sunset.
Do not forget to bring a sea-towel, an extra swimsuit, sun cream (high protection), sun-glasses, a hat, snorkel, pallets, medicine and your favourite books.
Do not pack in huge suitcases; Blankets, bed sheets, coverlets and hand towels are already available on the boat. You can also put some board games like monopoly, taboo, or scrabble to entertain yourself with your friends. And last but not least do not forget to bring your digital camera or camcorder

Food & Drinks

Cuisine is an important part of your holiday. On board a gulet you will have your very own chef who will prepare all meals from the fresh local ingredients for the ultimate alfresco dining experience.  Fish and other seafood is sometimes caught by the crew or the guests themselves or bought from local fishermen who come along when they have a catch to sell.

- For private charters full board supplement is usually optional which you can pay in advance for the duration of your cruise.

- Cabin only bookings are generally sold as full board and prices quoted are inclusive of breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or coffe and dinner.

Summary Of A Day

On the boat, the day starts with a lovely breakfast in the cool and peaceful morning. Usually, breakfast is served at the bay where the night was spent, and after breakfast, it is time to set sail. The aim is to reach the next destination before noon when the sea is silent and as calms as a millpond. After lunch, there is enough time for everyone to spend the time as they wish; resting, reading, swimming, diving, surfing, water-skiing, etc. Before the evening, a new excitement is in the air because it is time to watch the "sun set" accompanied with a glass of drink, and don’t worry it’s not going to rain. In the evening you may want to try a local restaurant or a bar on land, or stay on board and enjoy a leisurely dinner under millions of stars.
